Friends of the Arts

Who Are We?
As Mt. Greylock’s only booster club for the arts, Friends of the Arts (FOA) supports the important role that the Arts play in our student’s education. We are comprised mostly of parents and work closely with faculty, administrators, as well as the Williams Center at Greylock

What do we do?
We do everything we can to enhance students’ exposure to the arts!

  • Support arts education and extracurricular programs via logistics, advocacy, fundraising, and small grant making.
  • Fund field trips to museums and performances.
  • Coordinate meals and rides for theatrical productions.
  • Build sets.
  • Manage concessions.
  • Sponsor in-school and co-curricular arts programming and projects.

How can students get involved in the arts?

Students can take advantage of the many offerings during school, as well as participating in after-school productions and workshops.

During School (electives):

  • Orchestra
  • Chorus
  • Band
  • Art

Annual Productions:

Fall Festival of Shakespeare:  Mt. Greylock students perform a Shakespeare play at Mt. Greylock and at Shakespeare and Co. in Lenox. co-funded by Mt. Greylock and FOA, professional actors and theater educators run the program. ANYONE is welcome to join and EVERYONE gets to play a part whether it is onstage or offstage in tech/creative support.
Note:  7th and 8th graders need only commit to two meetings per week!
After-school meetings commence mid-September.
All students “audition” as a group to help directors decide on best play to produce- they do theater games and short scenes.
Production weekends in mid-November.

“Greylock Plays … at Night”:  All-school Talent Show - students, faculty and staff come together to perform. This has been on hold while we await a new auditorium. Watch for a return in 2019!

Winter Musical:  Directed by teacher, Jeff Welch, the musical is open to all grades. There are opportunities to sing, act, dance, perform in the pit orchestra and provide technical support.
Auditions are usually held before winter break with performances in mid-March.

Spring Drama:  Historically directed by high school seniors with an advisor this ensemble performance often balances drama with comedy. An opportunity for 7-8th graders to have their own co-produced performance experience is supported by Friends of the Arts.
Rehearsals in early Spring. Production slated for late May.

PARENTS:  Join FOA!
We meet monthly, alternating between Saturday mornings and Monday evenings.  We welcome your questions and input about any of our efforts to support Arts at Mt. Greylock.
