The adjusted 2020-2021 academic calendar has been posted. Voted on July 30, 2020, this calendar may be amended as necessary due to updates provided by the Commissioner of Education. Make especial note of new first days for students.

The Mount Greylock Regional School is committed to providing the best educational experience for all families in the coming school year. Your answers to this survey will provide us with information that is vital to developing plans that will enable us to respond to the pandemic. We are currently developing three plans (In-Person, Remote, and Hybrid) for the upcoming school year that will be shared no later than August 10.

Things are starting to move forward with our reopening plans. Currently the pace is methodical and measured. It may seem like nothing is happening, but conversations have been many and the planning robust. Soon decisions will start being made and then plans will be put into action. I anticipate the tempo will steadily increase to the point that it may seem rushed if you were uninformed of the process. To that point, I want to bring everyone "into the know" now so we can ask the right questions, advocate for with one voice, and make our goals and messages clear.

From more than 1.5 million program entrants, each of the students is among the top 50,000 highest-scoring participants who will be recognized as either Semifinalists or Commended Students in the fall. Congratulations to these academically talented Mounties.

Hello Mount Greylock Rising 7th Grade Students and Families, I'm excited to share an opportunity with you as you begin your transition into Mount Greylock. Members of the Sophomore class, and Health / Peer Team teacher Ms. Leitt, developed a Pen Pal program called the Mountie Mates.

The Class of 2020 enjoyed a two-part hybrid graduation with a pre-graduation video of speeches and awards plus a slideshow of class members. Mount Greylock is grateful to Debby Dane and Willinet for producing this video. Coming soon will be an expanded version that that includes photos and music from graduation day. [video]

Mount Greylock has been working to re-establish a vital job shadowing program and other "real life" programming with the Berkshire County Regional Employment Board and the diligent work of Lisa Mendel, Jessica Casalinova and Beverly Maselli. While all the job shadow pairing could not take place once COVID-19 closed schools, we thought it would be interesting to share the variety of student interests and the commitments from myriad community volunteers who agreed to host students for a day.

Congratulations to Mia Harding '24 (and her younger sister Izabel) and Malcolm Skinner '20, who helped with the narration and production of a history video series for the Williamstown Historical Museum that the girls narrated. The first two videos in the series are online now and are titled "A Brief Introduction to Williamstown." [video]

nbCC in partnership with the Spiffy Coalition (Hampshire County) and Communities That Care coalition (Franklin County) invite you to join a free webinar on Thursday, June 25 at 4PM, Little Treatments, Big Effects. Profession of Psychology Jessica Schleider of Stony Brook University will share her promising research on brief interventions for depression and anxiety in youth. Please join us.

Read the book or books listed for the class you will be taking next year. Come to school prepared to discuss and write about important ideas from the text(s).

At MGRSD, we condemn in the strongest terms the violence being perpetrated against people of color in cities and towns across our country. We recognize and condemn the long history of racism rooted in the deepest facets and structures of our society. We are committed to the nonnegotiable values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will continue to listen, to learn, and use our roles as educators, leaders, mentors, and protectors of children to be active participants in the fight for social justice. We vow to invite and inspire our students to do the same.

Below you will find answers to many of the questions that rise at this time of year. Certainly this list is not comprehensive, but it will address the most popular questions for now.

SOC is hosting another game night on WEDNESDAY, June 3rd at 7:30 pm. This week's contest is back to TRIVIA, but we asking each participant to come with 3-5 trivia questions they would like to ask others. Any subject. All ages are welcome!

On average, 6% of high school athletes continue athletic participation in college. This year, 8 members of the Class of 2020 let us know they have plans to continue their athletic participation at the next level. Traditionally we take time during the school day to honor students planning to participate in an athletic program at the collegiate level. While we are unable to honor students in the auditorium this spring, we would still like to take the opportunity to mention each student, congratulate them and wish them luck as they continue their athletic endeavors. As we wrap up this academic year, we are also feverishly planning for the fall. One of the most important steps in that planning has been to identify who will lead Mount Greylock Regional School. I am pleased to announce that I have appointed Jacob (Jake) Schutz as the new principal of MGRS.

Students are placed on the honor roll when their quarterly letter grades average a B or better, and when the student receives no grade lower than a B- in all graded classes. If students earn any grade of a C+ or lower, their names will not be placed on the honor roll. The student must be carrying a minimum of four graded courses to be eligible. Students who withdraw from a course are not eligible for the honor roll for one semester.

This year Mount Greylock will be having its 4th annual pride event during May 26th-29th! While our pride event is typically a one day event hosted in June, this year, we want to celebrate for a week while the seniors are still in classes so they can join in. We invite all students, teachers, and staff to wear rainbow or bright clothing to classes, change zoom backgrounds to have some sort of rainbow included, learn about important members of the LGBTQ+ community in history, and listen to the GSA's playlist.

Students Organizing Change (SOC) in collaboration with Willinet present their first edition of story time. This set includes 8th graders Celia Szczepaniak, Noelle Dravis and Grace Winters reading from their favorites. Advisor Liza Barrett opens the program with some background to SOC and it's focus and accomplishments over the years. [video]

During this unprecedented time of COVID-19 and Mount Greylock's shift to remote learning, we have adjusted the grading scheme in the fourth quarter to Credit and No Credit from letter and number grades. Further, the quarter weights have been shifted to calculate the annual GPA. The document MGRS Grading During Remote Learning outlines Mount Greylock's plans and definitions for terms.

Attached is the calendar that was approved at the last School Committee meeting. Please note that September 14th may end up being a state holiday (replacing Patriots Day for the Boston Marathon), pushing the last day of school by one day. That notation is on the calendar itself already.
