Language Arts consists of spelling, writing, and reading.

Spelling lists and tests are given weekly, approximately 20 words per week.

Students write several essays throughout the year, including but not limited to: persuasive writing, Veteran’s Day interview/biography,

Martin Luther King speeches, and Presidential research papers.

Our reading program is novel-based, with quizzes, tests, and projects to assess understanding.

Sixth Grade Mathematics reviews and extends prior concepts, such as, place value, ratios, fractions, geometry, probability, and pre algebra.

In science, we explore human anatomy, earth science, and basic physics.  Labs are included in each unit.

The cornerstones of our Social Studies program are the Geopedia project and current events with the Jr. Scholastic magazine.

Geopedia explores cartography and factual information about countries and cities around the world.

Special Events

We occasionally invite guest speakers for curriculum enrichment. Professional members of our community share their expertise with our students.

Some previous speakers include a Massachusetts bike advocate, musicians, veterans, medical doctors, and professors.

Energy Day is a collaboration with the CET, when we do science projects about energy use at home.

We also have several fundraising events to support our year end trip to Cape Cod.

MGRHS orientation consists of visits by Greylock teachers and students and a tour of the middle school.

Graduation happens upon the successful completion of the sixth grade.
