Each year at Mount Greylock we have to determine the interest level in all of our athletic programs to determine whether we are able to open the program to middle school students. Many of our individual sports are commonly available to Middle School Students, while many of our teams programs are available to high school students only. As many of you learned during the 6th grade orientation we offer each spring, in those programs we encourage middle school students to continue participating at the youth level to stay involved prior to their ninth grade year.
The governing body for athletics in the state of Massachusetts is designed for students in grades 9 - 12. Unlike the "high schools" in Berkshire County and the rest of the state, we have been able to include 7th and 8th grade students in some programs because all Mount Greylock students are under one Principal. This has been helpful to both those students and to the school to ensure we have enough students to 'field' a JV team in those specific sports. The determination each year is based on student interest and participation rates as well as the number of students able to participate in a contest on any given day. Programs that have unlimited race entries are programs we can successfully include 7th and 8th graders. We are unable to open up programs that have a limited number of students on the court/field/playing arena at a given time with a lot of high school interest.
In the Athletic Offerings information sent out this past August, baseball was listed as a program available to students in grades 8 - 12.
Due to recent concerns I would like to have a more exact number of interested students rather than the estimate from last spring.
I am asking that parents and students please have a conversation about athletic interests for the spring season and complete the survey below if your child is interested in playing baseball this spring at Mount Greylock. The spring registration will begin in mid-February but I am afraid that last minute registration will make it impossible to have an accurate count until too late.
I appreciate your time!
The survey is only three questions and will take less than a minute!
Please complete this survey if you are interested in playing baseball at MG this spring: https://goo.gl/forms/anUlQAaCgT1ilZna2.
The spring season begins on March 18th and the Parent/Athlete Meeting will be March 11th at 6pm in the School Cafeteria.
Thank you again!
