A sculpture was installed just west of the school building this week to honor former art teacher John D. Maziarz.
The sculpture entitled Homage was modeled after a sculpture designed by John of found materials and erected in the courtyard beside the art room in the old school building.
John indicated that the original sculpture’s components were symbolic: the pole represented its permanent place, the wheel was time, and the two crossed pieces of wood were the randomness of the universe.
John Cooney ’94 created the replica to be installed at the current building.
Many staff – colleagues and former students of John Maziarz’s - were present at the dedication organized by Lisa Mendel and John Cooley.
John Maziarz was taught at Mount Greylock for 30 years.
