In 2018, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) communicated expectations for all schools to be accountable across multiple standards, including student attendance. Incidents of chronic absenteeism, identified as 18 absences per year, contributed negatively to a school's overall accountability score. This determination has moved the School Council and School Committee to revise Mount Greylock's attendance procedures regarding notification of students and parents/guardians in the event of extensive unexcused absences and the understanding that 9 unexcused absences and 18 unexcused absences could jeopardize credit in semester-long or year-long courses respectively. While we are notifying you now, the procedures and the new limits will put into place at the start of the next school year.
