A Message from the Superintendent: Re: New Student Travel Policy
Posted 04/01/2021 11:42AM

Good Afternoon Folks,

I hope everyone is well and continues to take good care of yourselves and each other.

Last night the school committee adopted two new interim (temporary) student travel policies. They can both be found here: We are at the point in the road where the following all meet:

  • we have students returning in grades pre-k-6 full time,
  • we do not yet have everyone fully vaccinated,
  • we are seeing an uptick in the number of cases in the Berkshires and in neighboring communities and counties, and
  • we are 2 weeks away from spring break.

This meeting at the crossroads caused our administrative and health teams to pause for thought--the student travel policy is the result.

While this policy applies to students and their families, we certainly hope that we all try to keep within the spirit of this policy. We do understand that some travel is absolutely necessary. We hope that if you must travel, you do so safely and follow the guidance of the Commonwealth. If you do not have to travel, please don't. We are all in this together, and we will get to the end, and back to the things and the people that we love.

Please stay well, and thank you for being the kind of people who choose to do such vital work in and for our community.
