In the next few weeks there will be quite a few meetings in the state of Massachusetts to determine what, if any winter athletic offerings will be possible. If you have an desire or intent to participate, please complete this winter interest athletic survey.
Due to the amount of information that will have to be shared to prepare for a possible winter season, I want to ensure that only those interested receive the multitude of emails soon to come. I will only be sending information to those who respond to the survey to avoid filling everyone else's inboxes with all this additional information. If we are able to have programs, there will be participation limits so submitting this interest form will really help us determine important aspect of our programs.
We are starting to receive quite a few questions regarding the winter season, so here is an update for High School Athletics in Massachusetts:
As of today, there are currently no definite winter athletic plans for high school programs in the state, county or at Mount Greylock - everything is going to be determined in the next few weeks. The Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) released an update last Friday for those involved in youth athletic programs in the state of Massachusetts to use while planning. The individual MIAA Sport Committees have begun meeting to create recommendations for possible sport modifications based on those newly released guidelines. These committees are made up of Principals, Athletic Directors, Coaches and Officials with knowledge of each sport. The MIAA Sports Medicine Committee will then review those recommendations for safety and health standards. Additionally, the MIAA COVID Task Force will meet next week to create overall winter recommendations regarding timing, number of contests, location of contests and other similar topics. Late next week (likely November 20th), the MIAA Board of Directors will meet to review and vote on all of those winter athletic related recommendations that have been brought forward.
At that time, the Berkshire County Athletic Directors and Principals will meet to make any county related adjustments. This could include adjusting start/end dates, creating safe county schedules, specific race formats, creating spectator policies or transportation procedures, and discussing other ways we can ensure safety and consistency across Berkshire County. The Athletic Directors and Principals will then go to their respective School Committee for an update or final vote (if necessary). The MG School Committee is currently set to meet on Monday, November 23rd.
If Mount Greylock is able to move forward with any form of winter program (competitive or practice), students and parents interested in being involved at should expect to attend an information meeting in the evening on November 30th. This meeting will be used to review any necessary modifications and present important information. The FamilyID registration will be published the week prior for families to begin signing up and verifying they will follow all regulations to ensure a season that is as safe as possible.
I will update families who have completed the survey as I learn additional information.
Thank you all for your patience!
