Dear Mount Greylock Regional School District Families and Staff,
We started in-person learning at Mount Greylock Regional School District on October 5 and over the past 19 school days we have all worked diligently to hone the safety protocols that were based on the recommendations of the state and our own Wellness Working Group. The implementation is going well, but I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate some key safety expectations and heighten the community's awareness of our local and state requirements.
It is vitally important that all of us both wear the correct kind of face covering and wear it properly. Mask wearing is perhaps the most important thing that we are doing to take care of each other. Here are the mask-related points that we must all reinforce with each other:
- All masks should be "multiple-layer fabric masks with a tight weave or paper surgical masks."
- Masks should be worn at all times, unless staff explicitly allow taking them off. These moments are limited to specific mask breaks and lunch periods. It is worth noting that masks must be worn at bus stops, while on the bus and while approaching to enter our schools.
- Masks must cover your mouth, nose, and chin, and so it is tight against your face. This maximizes the protection that a mask provides to you and others.
- Our complete face covering policy is linked at the base of this email.
All of our community members, staff and students alike, are required to follow the significant precautionary measures that are in place regarding the handling of COVID-related symptoms. The details are linked below, but the simple rules to follow are these: answer the Daily Symptoms Screener honestly and follow the guidance of our nurses if you answer "Yes" to any of the questions within the screener. We are following the constantly evolving guidance from our state and federal governments around how to best protect our schools while keeping them open to the greatest extent practicable. Please follow the experts' instructions.
Massachusetts Travel-related Rules
All of our community members must follow the state's mandates around precautions when traveling to and from other states. It is especially important to refresh our knowledge of these requirements as we move toward the holiday season and COVID-19 incidence rates increase around the country. Please see the link below to Massachusetts' Travel Orders. Among other things, the state requires specific quarantine and/or testing under specific travel conditions.
On Monday morning November 2, 2020 Dr. McCandless will be assuming the responsibilities of the superintendent of the MGRSD. I have worked with Dr. McCandless over the past 15 years and I am sure you will quickly come to recognize and appreciate, as I have, his many qualities that make him a gifted educational leader and a compassionate and caring human being. I thank you all for the opportunity to serve the Mount Greylock community.
Robert Putnam, Interim Superintendent
